5 signs that you’re overcomplicating your marketing

As a business owner, it can be really easy to think that we have to be doing everything, especially when it comes to marketing our businesses. But the reality is that marketing your business doesn’t have to be complicated, nor should it be. So here are 5 signs you could be overcomplicating your marketing, and what to do about it!

You spend hours on a caption that should ONLY take 15 minutes

Seriously, stop overthinking it. When you try to force your captions, they’re always going to sound icky or stagnant. And they’ll take you ages to write.

If in doubt, keep it simple. And if it’s still taking you ages to write, maybe the problem isn’t the caption but the post itself (and how confident you feel posting it).

You change your branding every time you post

PLEASE stop doing this. Your branding is part of what makes you recognisable. If you keep changing it, your posts won’t stand out as “yours”. And they’ll take you ages to create because you don’t have your branding sussed.

There are colour palettes and font guides online that can help you create it if you have to go the DIY route, but better yet, put money aside and invest in branding from a brand designer!

You delete posts because they’re NOT PERFECT

Sometimes, if it is the difference between posting and not, done is better than perfect. Perfection, or something close to it, will come the more you post, review and refine your content. And you can only do this if you start posting. Content creation is like a muscle; it needs training. The more you train, the easier it is to use.

Refine your content and adapt it as you go, as long as your messaging is clear, and it’s in your tone of voice, and feels like YOU, you can’t go far wrong!

You Plan content for a month but post nothing

If you’re creating a content plan but not posting your content, chances are you’re feeling a lack of confidence and probably have a case of comparisonitis when looking at other brands in your industry.

Firstly, stop looking at their content for a bit.

And second, decide if the content you’ve created really resonates with you. If yes, you need to post it; if not, refine or scrap it.

The more you start putting yourself into your content, with your own thoughts and opinions, the easier it’ll be to post.

The messy reel you posted recently? it’s still your best performer

Because it’s showing WHO you are. Viewers are done with perfection. They want to see the real person behind the brand. So it’s time you start showing up as YOU!

People want to see the real you...

And showing the real you online is what will create the “know, like and trust” factor that is crucial to turn followers into customers. People are sick of seeing the same perfect, curated content, so showing the reality behind your business will go a long way to continue bringing people into your online world, encouraging them to engage with your content and stay following you, and eventually turning into customers.
